Game modes are tied to singular playlists and crossplay is mandatory barring solo/duo queues in ranked, though even there, players are forced into quad matches. Players were promised a game they could play the way they wanted they can't - it's literally impossible. Players were promised a game that shuns FOMO Halo Infinite's weekly challenges and capped limited-time events (read: Tenrai) encourage FOMO, wholeheartedly.

Halo Infinite accomplishes its goal of being a spiritual reboot in that regard, but much of it is marred by egregious problems that never should've been overlooked. Now, the studio has sidelined that audacity for a game that isn't as much a course correction as it is a reminder of what made people fall in love with Halo in the first place. It wasn't what people expected at the time, but it certainly was bold. It's been six years since Halo 5: Guardians released and revamped the franchise by pushing it forward with new characters, new equipment, and new villains. In the meantime, there's at least the story to play through, which is absolutely worth it.

The problem is not liking it means abandoning a near and dear property like Halo since apparently I'm not a fan for liking it when 343 does me dirty. I feel like I have not only been forgotten but actively dismissed and sidelined for participating in funding my own misery that was buying Halo 4, then the MCC for my brother's birthday only to discover a broken mess that was abandoned for 4 years, then a microtransaction ridden Halo 5. All these interviews with the sanitized corporate jargon "it's very much that" "herculian" "tremendous" "do you really miss that anyway?" Forgive us for cautious optimism/overt skepticism when it comes to 343 Industries gaslighting the community into believing their actions are in line with how much "they care" about the community. "You're not a true fan" is an actual argumentative fallacy called the No True Scotsman fallacy when it comes to dismissing others for not liking what they see. They will do everything in their power to appease a larger playerbase and get a softer rating so they can belittle the players who do in fact have brains and working hippocampuses that remember very well where Halo gets its M rating. The answer is yes, I do miss the M rating if it means no blood effects, gore with flood (or even flood to begin with), more mature dialogue and story choices (Halo 2 perhaps has some more harsh story beats). They will say "well I mean to be fair-" and "Well do you really miss that?" "You didn't like it that way, you're remembering it wrong." These employees are going to be instructed NOT to dismiss the product. I feel like I'm being gaslit in an abusive relationship.
